I got a kick out of the" Boston burglar" on the wax cylinder...
the whole thing of recording on wax seems pretty ingenious.. that'll be interesting to learn more about.
before recording live there were player pianos and even music boxes where people could hear a song played (but no voices of course)
When I was young one of our Canadian relatives had a player piano..it was a big treat to make a visit to them.
Later in life one cousin worked at a music box museum in Vermont..it was interesting about the competitiveness and whose arrangement was better than the others etc. He had to wear white gloves if there was a piece he was showing...I don't know when the were first invented but they go back several centuries I think.
